Y5&6 Girls Cricket Tournament (Primary Events)

Back to calendar

The BPSS Cricket competition will run in line with the ECB Dynamos Schools rules with some adaptations this year regarding equipment being used.

BPSS reserve the rights to alter or amend the playing schedule if necessary and make decisions on any matters arising during the tournament, including any matters not covered by the tournament regulation.

Squad Size Schools are permitted to enter a minimum of 8 competitors and a maximum of 10 competitors per gender.

Kit & Equipment

  • Plastic bats only

  • Balls will be provided

  • Wicket keeping gloves will not be allowed in the BPSS event

  • Pads are not permitted.

Competition Format

  • The competition is 8-a-side teams with 40 balls per innings.

  • Each player will bowl a set of 5 balls.

  • All bowling is from one end – at the end of each over batter’s switch ends.

  • The pitch length is 17 yards.

  • Scorecards will be completed for each pitch

Batting and scoring runs

  • The batting side will be divided into pairs, each pair batting for 10 balls.

  • Teams may start with a minimum of 5 players.

  • A batter can be bowled out, caught, run out, stumped, or hit wicket.

  • Each time a batter is out, the pair swap ends and 5 runs are added to the bowling team.

  • Runs are scored by hitting past (4 runs) or over (6 runs) the boundary or completing runs between the wickets.

Wides and no balls

  • Following a no ball or a wide, the batter receives a “free hit” from the batting tee, and any runs scored are added to the total for that delivery (for example 2 runs for a wide, plus 1 run from the “free hit” = 3 runs)

  • Batters have 3 seconds to take their free hit and must hit in front of square.

  • Batters can be run out whilst trying to complete a run during a free hit but only by the ball struck from the batting tee (and not the original ball that resulted in the free hit being awarded).

Bowling and fielding:

  • Each player on the fielding side must bowl a set of 5 balls.

  • Bowling will take place from one end only and can be overarm or underarm.

  • Fielders to rotate after each over. Except for the wicketkeeper no fielder may field within 10 yards of the bat.

  • Byes are given if the batters miss the ball, or the ball hits part of the body and the batters run.

  • No balls and wides are given if the ball is deemed un-hittable e.g., rolling, too high or too far to be hit fairly.

Please note if you are a non buy in school, you will be charged to attend.
